1986: Conception

In 1986…

Spain and Portugal joined the European Economic Community.

President Reagan froze Libyan assets in the U.S.

The United States launched air strikes on Libya.

The Soviet nuclear reactor at Chernobyl exploded causing a release of radioactive materiel across much of Europe.

Smoking was banned in the U.S. on all public transport.

Argentina won the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.

The Space Shuttle Challenger disintegrated after launch.

British surgeons performed the first triple transplant of a heart, lung and liver.

The Human Genome Project was launched.

Scotland carried out a full survey of the Loch Ness Monster, hoping to find proof of its existence.

The experimental airplane Voyager completed the first non-stop, around-the-world flight.

IBM unveiled the PC convertible- the first laptop computer.

Two unknown people were living in South Florida with their toddler son.

And I was conceived.
